About
Mariela
I initially started my graduate degree in psychology, but being so empathic, I wanted to still help people, but that requires less emotional/connection. I found speech pathology, or more so, it found me! I had always loved working with kids, and being given the nickname "the child whisperer" therefore I fell in love with the process of helping children communicate, and help give them a voice when they had none.
First and foremost it is about building rapport with the student, so they can feel comfortable, and they can understand that I invest in my student's uniqueness, and put their needs first. I want to share and help them achieve their own personal success. I believe in providing a safe, positive environment that safeguards students' uniqueness and allows them to be themselves and express their differences freely and be celebrated for that.
I love that Parallel and I share the same core mission of empowering students learning differences, and celebrating each student’s uniqueness. A student with learning differences doesn’t need to be changed; they need support. I believe in this 100%!
